6.4L 392 HEMI V-8 – OIL – STANDARD PROCEDURE – ENGINE OIL SERVICE – CRANKCASE OIL LEVEL INSPECTION

On the 6.4L engine, the oil level indicator is located on the right side of the engine.

CAUTION: Do not overfill crankcase with engine oil, pressure loss or oil foaming can result.

Inspect the engine oil level approximately every 800 kilometers (500 miles). Unless the engine has
exhibited loss of oil pressure, run the engine for about ten minutes before checking the oil level.
Checking the engine oil level on a cold engine is not accurate.

To ensure proper lubrication of an engine, the engine oil must be maintained at an acceptable level.
The acceptable levels are indicated between the ADD and SAFE marks on the engine oil level
indicator.

1. Position the vehicle on the level surface.

2. With the engine off, allow approximately five minutes for the oil to settle to the bottom of the crankcase and then remove the engine oil level indicator.

3. Wipe the oil level indicator clean.

4. Install the oil level indicator and verify it is seated in the tube.

5. Remove the oil level indicator, with the handle held above the tip, observe the oil level reading.

6. Add oil only if the level is below the ADD mark on the oil level indicator.
