7.3L Power Stroke – WATER PUMP – Removal

1. Drain the cooling system. See COOLING SYSTEM BLEEDING. Remove the cooling system fan and fan clutch. See      COOLING FAN BLADE, CLUTCH & SHROUD.
2. Disconnect the upper radiator hose from the water pump outlet tube. Remove the thermostat and housing. See            THERMOSTAT. Note the routing of the accessory drive belt and remove the accessory drive belt.
NOTE: The water pump pulley is removed for clarity.
3.Disconnect the heater hose from the water pump. See Fig. 127. Remove the 2 bolts and the water outlet tube. See         Fig. 28. Disconnect the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor connector, if equipped. See Fig. 130.

4. Remove the Camshaft Position (CMP), sensor electrical harness clip retaining bolt.
Disconnect the pin-type retainer and position the CMP sensor harness away from the water pump.
5. Remove the 4 water pump pulley bolts and the water pump pulley. See Fig. 128. Remove the 6 bolts and the water      pump. See Fig. 129. Clean the water pump gasket surfaces.
