The MIL is located in the instrument cluster and shows an engine icon (international standard).
The MIL warns the driver that the EOBD system has detected an emissions-related fault in a component or system.
If an emissions-related fault is detected and if this fault is confirmed during the third driving cycle, the MIL is switched on.
After the MIL has been switched on, a fault log is created in the PCM. The fault logs contain information regarding the type of fault and the time since the MIL was activated.
The MIL ensures that a fault is recognized in time. The defect can be repaired in good time and the emission of exhaust gas with high levels of pollutants is avoided.
