Diagnostics of the flywheel housing and flywheel is normally limited to a visual inspection of the parts for damage
or wear.
Occasional failure of a starting motor to engage can becaused by damaged teeth on the ring gear. Service ring gears are available for repairing flywheels (refer to procedure 7-23).
When troubleshooting a transmission vibration problem, it may be necessary to measure the concentricity of fly
wheel housing-to-crankshaft and flywheel housing face alignment
