KUBOTA – L2501 – REAR AXLE – TIGHTENING TORQUES
Tightening torques of screws, bolts and nuts on the table below are especially specified. (For general use screws, bolts and nuts: See page G-11.)

The final gears (10) are final reduction mechanism which further reduces the speed of rotation. The direction of power transmitted is changed by the differential gear. The rear axles (2) are the final transmission mechanisms which transmit the power from the transmission to the rear wheels. The rotation speed is reduced by the final gears… Read More »
1. Secure the differential case in a vise. 2. Set a dial indicator (lever type) on the tooth of the differential side gear. 3. Hold the differential pinion and move the differential side gear to measure the backlash. 4. If the measurement exceeds the allowable limit, adjust with the differential side gear washer. 1. Measure the differential pinion shaft O.D. 2. Measure the differential pinion I.D. and calculate the clearance. 3. If the clearance exceed the allowable limit, replace them.
1. Measure the bore I.D. of the differential case and differential case cover. 2. Measure the differential side gear boss O.D. and calculate the clearance. 3. If the clearance exceeds the allowable limit, replace them.
Replace adjusting shim with thicker one to move the bevel pinion shaft forward. And place the right side shim to the left to move the bevel gear leftward. Repeat above until the proper tooth contact and backlash are achieved.

More than 35 % red lead contact area on the gear tooth surface. The center of tooth contact at 1/3 of the entire width from the small end.
1. Set the dial indicator (lever type) with its finger on the tooth surface. 2. Measure the backlash by fixing the 8T spiral bevel pinion and moving the bevel gear by hand. 3. If the backlash exceeds the factory specification, decrease the number of shims at right bearing case (right) and … Read More »
