Cummins 4BT – Coolant or Pan Heater – Check

When operating, the engine blockoroil pan heater should make an audible sound and the adjacent parts should be warm to the touch. Some heaters will operate continuously when plugged into the correct voltage electrical socket. Operate them only when the ambient temperature is below 0 °C [32°F].

Cummins 4BT – Alternator – Checking

The terminals on the alternator are shown in this illus­tration. The “ R” (Delco) and “ W ” (Bosch) terminal pro­vide one-half system voltage and is used to operate ac­cessories such as the tachometer on generator sets. Trouble with the charging system may be indicated by the indicator lamp or ammeter.
